This year 2013 on 28th May, we celebrate a Royal Plugging Ceremony to alert farmers that it is time to farm rice now.Every year, this ceremony was celebrated in Royal Palace in front of Museum, but this year 2013, the ceremony is celebrated at Kompong Cham Provice City.
There are many procedure apply in the ceremony,but what is important is the plouging,and forecasting ceremony.For ploughing, they have a pair of oxen to plough the rice field as if they are ploughing.But our farmers use oxen or ploughing machine to farm their rice field.After ploughing, they release the oxen to eat some of food prepared in the bowl.The food usually are rice, seed, alcohol,grass,water etc.
By observing what feed the royal oxen choose after the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, Cambodians believe they can predict a range of events including epidemics, floods, good harvests and excessive rainfall.In the prediction, if the royal oxen eat any food most that we can predict the future event according to the oxen eating.Example, if the oxen eats rice lots, it means that this year, the rice farm will have good harvest or eat any other seed the meaning is the same,but if the oxen drink alcohol they believe that this year will have lots of decease and will have lots of gangster in society.However, it is just a traditional believe.But I also believe of nature of forecasting, it will true some part.Because, hundred of year before people recover modern technology,they use this traditional.
In this generation everything is change because of technology improve so the traditional of forecasting is not take effect more percent.Not only traditional forecasting,but the modern technology also cannot guarantee 100% of accurate forecasting.They are also observe the nature and report.
Finally, my opinion is that both are still important in our society.
